Classic Tea Paste — Cha Gao Pu-erh

Classic Tea Paste — Cha Gao Pu-erh

Yunnan, China

Cha gao — pu-erh tea paste, the concentrated extract of the leaf, pressed into small stamped squares styled after antique Qing-dynasty reign seals (Kangxi/Qianlong/Yongzheng-inspired) rather than left as raw irregular chunks. It's marketed under a "Lao Banzhang" name; treat that as a style reference for an industrially extracted paste, not a literal claim about the material's origin.

Fully fermented and concentrated, with the deep, mellow character typical of the format — dissolve a piece directly in a cup, or drop it into a pot and keep adding hot water as the color fades; full dissolution usually takes a few rounds rather than one pour. Sold by weight.
